Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan, has become the highest ever paid Ghanaian footballer following his contract extension with his UAE-side, Al Ain, that will earn him at least €9.7 million per year. Other bonuses depending on the team’s results will rocket his annual earnings to about €11 million as reported by The Accra Report. Gyan, who had two years left on his deal, extended his contract on Thursday until 2018, and now earns more than Sulley Muntari, Michael Essien and Kevin-Prince Boateng. Following his new deal, Gyan will earn €186 000 weekly before winning bonuses as well as appearance fees. This means, he could earn up to about €44.65 million before his contract comes to an end in 2018. Muntari, Essien and Boateng reportedly all earn around €7.4 million annually, but have to pay about 40 percent taxes for their earnings in Europe. Gyan enjoys tax-free earnings in the UAE which means he will keep all the money he earns without paying anything in taxes. The 28-year-old, who scored his sixth World Cup goal in Brazil to become Africa’s leading goal-scorer at the global showpiece, was the UAE’s top flight leading goal-scorer for the past three years. Since joining in 2011 from Sunderland, originally on loan, Gyan has scored 82 goals in 66 league matches for Al Ain
