Ghana cherishes Iran’s relationship-Veep Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has stated that the government and people of Ghana cherishes the relationship that exist between Ghana and Iran, and has advocated for more economic co-operation between the two countries. The Vice President made the call when a special envoy from the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ambassador Valiollah Mohammadi, called on him at the Flagstaff House in Accra, to officially deliver a letter of invitation from President Hassan Rouhani to President John Mahama to visit Iran this year, so the two countries can discuss issues of mutual relations and expand the existing bilateral relationship. Mr. Amissah Arthur noted that Ghana needs countries like Iran to form viable partnerships to pursue initiatives for economic stability and growth. He said the long standing relations between the two nations had produced tangible benefits, stressing that: The permanent joint commission for cooperation has become a vehicle for enhancing development between our countries.” On his part, the special envoy Ambassador Valiollah Mohammadi said he’s had the opportunity to serve as ambassador of Iran to Ghana for five years, so he is conversant with relations that exist between Ghana and Iran, adding that last year their former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of the Islamic Republic of Iran paid a two-day visit to Ghana. Ambassador Valiollah said he came to Ghana with some officials from Islamic Republic of Iran to follow up on some of the agreement signed on the permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation on Agriculture. He said the Ghana - Iran relationship is something that would stimulate developmental road-map to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries at both governmental and private sector levels for further investment. Adding that a permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation would mandate them to strengthen their relations in many more ways apart from health, education and agriculture.
