Ghana fights HIV and other diseases As part of NDC 2012 manifesto policy to prioritize access, equity, affordable, efficient and reliable health care system in order to have a strong transformative economic impact on our nation and the lives of the citizenry, • Government has increased funding of HIV menace to the tune of GH₵150 million. • Government’s component for TB also covered human resource development and improving existing infrastructure to meet the minimum standard of TB care. • The budget earmarked for malaria control had increased to around $110 million annually. • Clearly Ghana is on track towards achieving the Abuja and MDG targets. • The objective of government’s response had been to reduce further transmission and infection. • And also to mitigate the effects of HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria on infected and effected. • And ensure equitable and universal access to essential medicine, commodities and services necessary for improved life expectancy. • The country had tripled its antiretroviral medicine coverage for pregnant women living with HIV. • This resulted in a 76% reduction in the number of new HIV infections among children. • With respect to malaria fewer children were dying with under-five malaria case fatality rate witnessing a 96% reduction. • Malaria related deaths for all ages, had also reduced from 6,100 in year 2000 to 2,815 in 2012.
