Ghost Hunting Tip Many ghost hunters use rechargeable batteries in order to save money. On our tours 98% of our equipment is ran off rechargeable batteries. Recently we have had a rash of rechargeable batteries that we could not get to charge. We found several problems, and once resolved 90% of the supposedly bad batteries turned out to be good. The first problem we found is that the battery charger contacts oxidize and a thin film starts to build up. This thin layer of oxidation eventually causes enough resistance that prevents our smart chargers from recharging our batteries. Periodically you need to clean off this layer of oxidation. The second problem is that the battery terminals themselves also start to oxidize. Again you need to clean the battery terminals to remove this layer of oxidation. Third problem is that rechargeable batteries develop a memory. This battery memory will prevent a smart charger from recharging the battery. To “brainwash” your batteries memory, place it on a slow “Dumb” battery charger that will apply a consistent charge to the battery. Eventually the battery will start to take a charge and acquire a new battery memory. We recharge about 300-400 batteries a week for our tours and we found out that these tricks have saved us hundreds of dollars in battery replacement costs. If you are looking for a “Dumb” battery charger, go to Goodwill. You can usually find a good
