Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd X1 90 for 6 drew with Chingford 180 for 7 Last league game of the season played on a disintegrating pitch at the Peter May Centre. Chingford won the toss and batted and some good early bowling had them in quickly in trouble with Will Jarrold picking up two wickets. Liam Neal unfortunately picked up a leg injury which prevented him bowling but the back up proved effective as Chingford were 48 for 6 before Paul Warren was joined by number 8 Noori (clearly a better batsman than the other six who had been ahead of him in the order) and gradually they assumed command as none of the change bowlers used could strike the right length and line. They added 132 before Warren holed out to the returning Andy Jenner and the innings was declared on 180 for 7. Jarrold took 4 for 70 off 18 overs, a great effort. By now the pitch had deteriorated a lot and the pacier Chingford bowlers made life difficult as the ball reared and stopped, occasionally keeping low. No one could really cope and the prospect of scoring 180 to win was unrealistic. 60 for 6 at he start of the last 20 overs meant survival was the order of the day and Will Jarrold accompanied by skipper Andy Jenner saw the draw through but not before both being hit a few times by the ball!! All in all a well earned draw by a young Park team on a shocker of a pitch. gprcc.co.uk/scorecard/fixtureID_328920/Saturday-3rd-X1-v-Chingford-07-Sep-2013.aspx
