Starting off with bruschetta: slices of crusty and chewy ciabatta, grilled and topped with slow-simmered caper-olive tomato sauce and crowned with pieces of sardine fillet in olive oil. Dashes of Tabasco Red pepper Sauce are added for heat! In the spirit of the theme, serving the bruschettas with chilled, mini Serradura, (literally translates to “sawdust” in Portuguese),from finely ground graham crackers (which looks much like the sawdust, thus the name), vanilla whipped cream, and a touch of condensed milk for sweetness. Happily conforming to the theme, the barista’s offering is a tall glass of Galao – a signature Portuguese-style coffee. Marios version is a blend of three quarters steamed milk and a quarter of strong espresso. The rich, milky and almost chocolatey-like taste, is just the right complement to the sardinhas bruschetta.
