Girl Scout Allyson Willis state shell bill -- naming the channeled whelk as Delawares official state shell -- was signed by Governor Jack Markell today in Dover! “It is so important to encourage civic engagement among young people and show them the value of advocating on behalf of issues that matter to them,” said Governor Markell. “This piece of legislation is the result of Allyson’s efforts and shows the impact one person can have on their community.” Allyson initially began her project in October 2012 and finished in September 2013, receiving the Girl Scout Bronze Award on December 1, 2013. I discovered that regardless of a person’s age, you can make a difference if you believe in what you are doing,” Allyson said in her Bronze Award report. “I can reach out to people and speak out and I will be heard.”
