Girl Scouts were in action in Panama City this past weekend as 67 Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors attended a program coordinated by the Gulf Coast State College Dental Clinic. Girls participated in groups by level and were led through various stations, to learn about tooth development over the lifespan, basic dental hygiene techniques, the effects of diet on dental health. They also learned what dental hygienists do -- from cleaning teeth and taking x-rays to storage of records -- and other details about that career path, including education requirements, typical salaries. In addition to these opportunities to discover and connect, the Girls also took action by each bringing donations of new toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash and floss, which will be donated to the Bethel Village program for women and children, run by our local Panama City Rescue Mission for the homeless. The girls attending earned the Real LIfe ToothFairy patch.
