Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full-pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. (Luke 6:38 NLT) Every person who heard Jesus speak this, could picture and understand exactly what He meant. In those days, when a shop owner would sell a product, they had a choice to make. Either they would pour the grain into a measured container and leave it at that or if the merchant was especially generous, they would pour it, shake it to settle it, pour some more, press it down to compress it and then pour even more on top until it would overflow. Here, Jesus is revealing to us the new way of grace. Just like sowing and reaping, when we give to others, we will reap in return - in even greater measure. Our Father is so generous that He will always out-give His children. We will never find ourselves in the position of giving more to God than He will give back to us!
