Give us info on Kapit deal, MACC tells DAP Dec 21 2014 The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) wants DAP to share any information it has on alleged corruption in the award of a road construction project in Kapit. Sarawak DAP suspects corruption when the tender for the Song/Sungai Yong was changed from open tender to selected tender soon before the award, but MACC director Mohd Jamidan Abdullah saw nothing wrong with it. We thank (Sarawak DAP chief) Chong Chieng Jen and hope he can provide any additional information on the case, if any. We would like to stress that MACC has never covered up or refused to investigate any complaint which merits an investigation, MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Mohd Shukri Abdull (right) said in a statement. He said that MACC can only initiate further investigation if there is detailed information. In this case, the public should know that we need information on the involvement of both - the party giving and receiving the bribe, he said. He also said that Mohd Jamidan had tried to contact Chong on the matter last Thursday but failed to reach him. Anyone dissatisfied with the MACC’s decisions can lodge a complaint with the Special Committee on Corruption and the Complaints Committee, the two independent groups tasked to oversee the commission’s work, he said. The Special Committee on Corruption is a parliamentary standing committee made up of parliamentarians, including DAP’s Kepong MP Tan Seng Giaw. Earlier, Chong who is also Bandar Kuching MP gave the MACC seven days to complete their probe on the matter after revealing that 53 contractors had submitted their bids in the open tender before the project was classified as ‘selected tender’. He said this arouses suspicion of cronyism.
