Given our conditioned natural state of go-go-go, the concept of relaxing can almost sound counter-productive. Over the short term, the time one might spend settling into a little down-time could be used for more work, sure, only without the down-time, without brief periods of rest and recovery, the quality of that extra work (and the everyday work) often begins to suffer. Not to mention our health. But we’re in a Catch-22 of sorts. There’s only so much time, after all, to do our jobs, take care of and be with our families, and hopefully give back a little to ourselves doing the thing we love. Much of that time we just can’t give up and what time we do spend chasing our dreams is much too precious. We often talk of giving yourself Sunday for rest. This coming after Saturday’s encouragement to play. Again, that could seem counter-productive. That’s why you have to evaluate your own life, your own schedule. If you can’t give yourself a full day to play, a full day to rest, what time can you give?! These are every bit as important to the overall quality of your other days (from a productivity standpoint, and a happiness standpoint, and a health standpoint). If you just don’t have a whole day. Do you have an hour? Half an hour? As with play, relaxing for thirty minutes can have a huge impact on your health, your state of mind, your stress levels, and your work.
