Given the thirty degree heat and the whole beach paradise thing, - TopicsExpress

Given the thirty degree heat and the whole beach paradise thing, we firefighters have been heading out for a swim each morning before breakfast. But we noticed we were alone... like, utterly. In our days here, literally no-one else has been in the sea. And the locals were reacting like we were profoundly, severely eccentric.... and that word isnt quite strong enough. They are sincerely appalled, impressed and fascinated that we would even contemplate doing this. The lovely fire chief looked thunderstruck when he heard, questioned us closely to confirm, then formally thanked us for surprising him so much in this way. We started asking around why... everyone had a different answer - too cold, too wavey, jellyfish hazard (THAT one had us going!)... every answer was confident. But all completely different. We got a touch paranoid (but carried on of course, hey!). Seems the answer is our own personal Lost In Translation cultural moment... yay! bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-29429742
