Given the unwillingness of the Kenyan Government to act decisively on the Mombasa tycoon behind the ivory seizures last week, I see no reason for donors to support anti poaching efforts, or for Parliament to include financing anti-poaching/anti-trafficking in its 2014/15 budget. In fact, if I was a ranger Id struggle to find a reason to go out on patrol. But we cannot let despondency infect our people at the front line. We Kenyans owe it to these extraordinary men and women at KWS and the rangers in the private and community sector to everything possible toe ensure that those behind the poaching and trafficking are brought to book, no matter how high up they are in Kenyan society and politics.
