Giving Thanks Throughout much of my life I have moved in - TopicsExpress

Giving Thanks Throughout much of my life I have moved in different circles. Sometimes I lived a series of parallel lives. I am not implying I had multiple personalities! I was just passionately involved in different worlds. There was my life in sport. My father put me in martial arts to deal with bullying at a young age. That morphed to a professional fighting career that spanned the stadiums of Europe to the arenas of Central Asia. Here I discovered my love of coaching, working with young athletes, and building organized frameworks for sport in Canada. There was my life with NGO work. After years of volunteering with the Red Cross during school, I was groomed into an amazing career that took to me to the ICRC in Geneva, work in the Philippines and Ghana and then back to home to build youth programs. That career shaped many years of amazing collaborative sector work across Canada. There was my involvement within my Muslim community. My inspirational teachers were always dear to my heart growing up. They taught me about commitment, perseverance and tolerance. I fell in love with the many people that worked hard to build a sense of belonging for young people. Working with MYNA became our hip space. There are the constants – my anchors. Loving parents, loyal friends, and my beautiful family whom I cherish as much as life itself. During my trip through Spain and Morocco I have been posting articles to share our experiences. But it has been an inspiration to read responses from friends from my past and present. It reaffirms the notion that even though people come from diverse lives, there is always more similarities than differences. It has also reminded me that I am terrible in keeping in touch! ☹ As we prepare for our return home, I want to graciously thank everyone for reading our logs and encouraging us to keep writing. One of the most welcoming experiences on our trip was reading so many of your thoughtful pieces and knowing that we were in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you. Wa Salam. Peace. Experience is not what happens to a person. Experience is what a person does with what happens to them. Albert North Whitehead
