Giving Tuesday is just 3 weeks away! Read John’s story and see the importance of qualified interpreters: John is a Deaf man who took himself to the Emergency Room with excruciating pain in his side. Like most Deaf Canadians, John’s first language is American Sign Language – not English. Alone at the hospital, without family or an interpreter, John signed a form agreeing to surgery. John didn’t understand what the surgery was for or what was wrong with him. All he knew was the surgery was a matter of life or death. Luckily, CHS was called and a qualified interpreter stepped in to create strong two-way communication.
