Giving thanks for students in my HUM 121 Peace Studies class who - TopicsExpress

Giving thanks for students in my HUM 121 Peace Studies class who are fanning out this week to make peace, do justice and serve in various volunteer capacities this week and next. Yesterday, five of them represented so well at an Operation Christmas Child shoebox assembly, and the event coordinator told me they asked questions about higher callings and different ways to serve. (You guys have no idea how it makes a teacher feel to know that her students not only kept the commitment but also gave it their all- Thank you). Today and over the next two days, they will volunteer at the Community Soup Kitchen. One student who volunteered today came back and told me some things about that important community asset that I didnt know. Next week, we will deliver handmade gifts to a local class and weve got a couple of Salvation Army Bellringers to make the season bright. If it sounds like Im bragging on them, its because I am. This course introduced us to some giant peacemakers...Gandhi, Dorothy Day and Dr. King... but all semester weve known and now practice that idea that peace begins with me. Peace is an action, not just a state of being. Thank you, peacemakers, for making me proud and taking our labor so seriously in and out of class. Blessings to you and Happy Thanksgiving. OH! Dont forget, weve got one last class together on Monday, Dec. 1. Lets deliver those gifts and then break bread together!
