Giving the self-publishing thing a twirl... For Immediate Release: Flinch! Books, a new publisher of pulp and adventure fiction, is looking for authors for their first publication, a prose anthology based on the works of eclectic and extremely strange cartoonist Fletcher Hanks. SOMETHING STRANGE IS GOING ON: NEW WORLDS OF FLETCHER HANKS will offer brand-new stories featuring all of Hank’s Golden Age comic book characters. The artist-writer produced only a handful of comic stories between 1939 and 1941, but the new anthology will pick up where he left off with fresh tales of his distinct and often bizarre brand of god-like superheroes and other near-omnipotent beings. Note: All of Fletcher Hank’s works are in the public domain. SOMETHING STRANGE IS GOING ON will feature eight stories of 5000 words each and will be published first as an e-book in May of 2014, and then later in a print edition. While the characters of Stardust, Fantomah, and Big Red McLane are already spoken for in the anthology, interested writers may propose new stories involving Buzz Crandall, Tabu, Space Smith, Tiger Hart, and Moe M. Include the three characters you’d like to write, in order of prominence, and if chosen to be included in the anthology you will be told which of them you have been assigned. Stories are due no later than March 31st, 2014. This is a hard dead-line; if you cannot meet it, please do not apply for a slot in the book.
