#GivingTuesday I am working with this Y on a project to rebuild the roof on their “women’s empowerment training hut.” The hut is a training space where women learn to weave banana fiber into baskets, handbags, and small handicrafts which the women then sell the items within the community to earn money to help support their families. This Y empowerment program will reach 1,000 families over the next 12 months and will help to give women the skills that they need to provide basic food, shelter, and clothing for their children. My #GivingTuesday goal is to try to raise the $2,000 needed to replace the current banana-leaf roof with a more permanent structure. The Kanyakumari Y utilizes the outdoor/open-air hut year-round for training with the local women.
