Gizmo Update First, thank you to all those that donated to Gizmo. Right now Gizmo is curled up in a crate sleeping. I just finished giving him sub q fluid (water under the skin) and two medications. He was not terribly cooperative about the needle so it was a bit of a challenge. I will do my best to save his life but part of it is out of my hands. Gizmo has parvo virus, a terrible intestinal flu that attacks the colon and stomach causing terrible bloody diarrhea and vomiting as well as dehydration. Without treatment infected dogs die a horrible death. With treatment some die and some survive it depends on how quickly it was diagnosed and treated. Puppies are the most at risk. There is a vaccine for parvo which is given to puppies in a series of two or three shots when they are young. Most doctors recommend the parvo vaccine every year. Parvo is contagious by an infected dogs feces and when an unvaccinated dog ingests even a microscopic bit of feces of the infected dog. In my experience I have treated at least ten dogs with parvo. I recall two that died from it. Hopefully we are not too late for sweet Gizmo. It will be a long road for Gizmo. Two weeks before we can safely say he will survive. It is a lot of work in caring for him. The first photo is simply of where Gizmo is. He wont come out of the crate now. The second is of volunteer and friend Lisa with Gizmo. Lisa was so wonderful to meet me at the animal hospital to help me and Danny with Gizmo. Gizmo will stay with me and my husband Chuck and I will take care of him. Please keep Gizmo in your thoughts and prayers. Goodnight everyone!!
