Glad I saw The Butler today. Brilliant movie -Not a dull moment. The audience spontaneously erupted in applause at the end - theres Albuquerque for you at a Sunday matinee! Always a kick-ass to see Oprah act; Jane Fonda is perfect as Nancy Reagan - these are minor points to a movie that has the sweep of american history the way Forest Gump did and addresses the interplay of activism and non-violence in a new way, The Butler is a butler in the White House over a half-century - from Eisenhower to Obama - and thru that lens, the history of the civil rights movement. His son is a freedom rider in the South and later, and both influence presidents policies. Not a simplistic film, but presented simply enough for a wide audience to grasp its many layers.
