Glo Health All Ireland Junior Women 1500m final at the Athlone International Arena has just concluded and Avril Deegan Ann Marie Deegan Dan Deegan has run a big Pb of 4.44.63 eclipsing her old mark by at least 5 seconds. Avril took the race to her rivals and had built up a 10 metre advantage by 200 metres. She continued to run strongly and had a 30 metre gap at 1000m. The tightly knit pack were working hard together and at 1200 metres the gap was down to 15 metres. The hugely experienced irish international Carla Sweeney of WSAF athletic club in Dublin positioned herself well and explosively surged past Avril at 1300 metres. The race for the line was truly on and Avril showed huge reserves of strength and courage in giving everything over the last gruelling 200 metres, holding off the fast finishig Cliona Murphy of Dublin City Harriers to claim an All Ireland Junior silver medal. Ian Wilsons blueprint is paying dividends. Well done to Avril on another sterling run..
