Global Geopolitics and CHT The Bengali Muslims of East Pakistan demanded recognition of their language, Bangla, as the second official language after Urdu in undivided Pakistan. The Pakistani authority denied their demand. A civil war broke out between the Bengali Muslims and the Pakistani authority over the issue, which ultimately led to the independence of East Pakistan named Bangladesh in 1971 with India played the decisive military and diplomatic role in it. East Timor seceded from Indonesia and became an independent and sovereign nation in 2002 under a UN sponsored referendum. South Ossetia seceded from Georgia and became an independent and sovereign nation in 2008 with the decisive military and diplomatic intervention of Russia. Crimea seceded from Ukraine and joined Russia in 2014 under a referendum sponsored by Russia. Likewise, Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) will be an independent and sovereign nation under a UN or big powers sponsored referendum in future, if Bangladesh fails to promote and protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of the indigenous people of the region.
