Global Islamic Spiritual Leader and Kutub Al Zaman. Mawlana Sheikh Nazim is of the highest quality of Auliya so that the one who sits with Mawlana Sheikh Nazim feels that he himself is in the rank of a very great Saint (Wali). This feeling is not from himself but from the light and spiritual power of Mawlana Sheikh Nazim. Mawlana Sheikh Nazim was born in Larnaca, Cyprus on the 21st day of April 1922. Sheikh Nazim was both from his fathers side and mothers side descendent from the Holy Prophet (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam). He traces his lineage to the 11th century Ghousul Ahzam Abdul Qadir Jilani and the 13th century mystic Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi. His maternal and paternal grandfathers were sheikhs in the Qadiri and Mevlevi orders respectively. As a child, the young Mawlana Nazim showed a propensity towards spirituality. His father sent him to school to study secular knowledge during the day, and in the evening he studied Islam at the local maktab, where he learned the basics of Islamic law, jurisprudence, the hadith and Quranic exegesis. At a very young age Mawlana Sheikh Nazim displayed unexplained talents in theform of explaining to his teachers what they were going to teach before it was introduced. After completing secondary school in 1940, at the age of 18 Sheikh Nazim moved to Istanbul, where two brothers and a sister were living. He studied chemical engineering at Istanbul University. While advancing in his non-religious studies, Sheikh Nazim continued his education in Islamic theology and the Arabic language under the tutelage of Sheikh Cemalettin Elassonli (d.1955 CE). Sheikh Nazim received a degree in chemical engineering. Yet he would later state, I felt no attraction to modern science. My heart was always drawn to the spiritual sciences. He began the study of the Shariah (Islamic Law) and Jurisprudence and more specially Sufism. He studied under the great Imam of that time who was Jamaluddin al Lasuni.
