Global Scholarship Program by Semyung University Application Requirements For the ACE Global Scholarship Program by Semyung University 1. Objective The objective of the ACE Global Scholarship Program for an undergraduate degree is to provide international students with an opportunity to conduct advanced studies at Semyung University, one of most proactive universities in Korea in order to promote international exchanges in education and mutual friendship between countries 2. Total Number of Scholarships Available: 10 students for full scholarship and 20 students for partial scholarship 3. Full Scholarship Benefits ⑴ Period, Financial Aid, Room & Food Waiver - Period: 5 year maximum (2014 AGSP begins in March 3, 2014 with the Korean language program until the end of an undergraduate program on February 28, 2019) - You can start your bachelor degree course right away if you submit a certificate proven level 3 on the TOPIK test (Test of Proficiency in Korean). - Financial Aid: * The entire tuition fee for the Korean language program for 6 months or up to one year and a 4 year undergraduate program * Room (dormitory) & Food (three meals per day/mostly Korean Cuisine) is free for the duration of AGSP. ⑵ Notes -Semyung University does not cover airfare. -Semyung University does not provide any kind of allowance -Semyung University does not cover medical insurance -Any grantee that quits the program within 3months of entering Korea, should refund all scholarship fees. 4. Partial Scholarship Benefits ⑴ Period, Financial Aid, Room & Food Waiver - Period: 4 year maximum (2014 AGPSP begins in March 1, 2014 with an undergraduate program). - The successful applicants should submit a certificate proven level 3 on the TOPIK test (Test of Proficiency in Korean) or 80 on IBT TOEFL, 550 TOEFL, 210 CBT or 550 TEPS. - Financial Aid: * More than 30 % waived tuition fee for 4 years undergraduate program curriculum conducted in English and Korean * Room (dormitory) is free for the duration of AGSP * 40 Meals per month * Medical Insurance * Round Trip Airplane Ticket ⑵ Notes - Successful candidates must deposit the required tuition fee within three weeks -Semyung University covers airplane ticket or airfare only once . -Semyung University does not provide the dormitory and meals during vacation -Successful candidates must pay for any meals exceeding 40 per month themselves 4. Qualifications: Prospective applicants should meet the following qualification criteria; A. Full Scholarship ⑴ Must be citizen of the country to which scholarships are offered. This also applies to his/her parents ※ Both applicant and his/her parents must not be a holder of Korean citizenship ⑵ Should be under 25 years of age as of January 1, 2014 (Should be born after March 1, 1989) ⑶ Have adequate health, both physically and mentally ※ NOT Eligible: those who are pregnant or who have a severe illness ⑷Have graduated or be scheduled to graduate from a junior college as of March 1, 2014 ⑸Must possess above 85%(out of 100%) Cumulative grade point average (C.G.P.A) during their entire high school period ※ C.G.P.A should be 3.07/4.0, 3.27/4.3, 3.41/4.5 or higher ⑹certificate proven level 3 on the TOPIK test (Test of Proficiency in Korean) or 80 on IBT TOEFL, 550 TOEFL, 210 CBT or 550 TEPS. (7) Have awards or certificate of qualifications nationally recognized related to applicants’ major (8) Must have no limitations in travelling abroad (9) We practice preferential selection for applicants who have proven proficiency in Korean Or English - Currently enrolled a full-time student pursuing 4-year undergraduate degree B. Partial Scholarship (1) Follows the same conditions as Full scholar ship qualifications except for clauses A (5) and (7). 5. Required Documents ⑴ Required Documents: 1 original set and 2 photocopied sets of all the documents listed below (Except ⑧: recommendation letters should be submitted as sealed by the recommenders) ① One completed application form (Attachment) ② Resume ③ Study plan ④ Diploma from your most recent Educational Institution ⑤ One High School Grade Transcript (including a description of the school grading system) ⑥ A Graduation Certificate of High School ※ Expectant Graduate: One original Provisional Graduation Certificate of High School ⑦ One Certificate of Korean or English Proficiency (if applicable) ⑧ Two Recommendation Letters ※ Applicant’s high school teacher or principal or academic advisor, etc. ⑨ Copies of Awards from authorized organizations ⑩ One Copy of the Applicant’s Passport * You must additionally submit official original documents in English. ⑵ Note ① The original documents and the two sets of photocopied documents should be sent in separate envelopes. ② Original documents should be submitted. However, should they be available, copied documents must be authenticated or notarized by the issuing institution proving that they are the same as the originals ③ English name spelling on the application form MUST be exactly the same as on your passport ④ If there is any inconsistency in the applicant’s name or birth date on submitted documents, further evidential documents to verify it should be attached ⑤ Those applicants who submit a Provisional Graduation Certificate of High School as an expectant graduate during the application period should submit his or her Graduation Certificate of High School upon arrival in Korea ⑥ Application forms and other materials should be filled out either in Korean or in English. The documents such as certificates or credentials issued in languages other than Korean or English must include an official notarized translation, which should be placed on top of the original ⑦ Application forms and other materials should be on A4 sized paper; if smaller, attach the material to an additional A4 sized paper; if bigger, fold it to A4 size. ⑧ A high school grade transcript should contain a description of the school grading system. And if the applicant class rank or percentile is not stated in the transcript, you should submit an additional official certificate issued by your high school to prove that your academic achievement satisfies 4-(5) above ⑨ Mailing address should be stated in full including postal-code ⑩ Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicant. So please make and keep photocopies of all application packages ⑪ Incomplete or incorrect documents may lead to application rejection or failure in the selection procedures 6. Selection Procedure Period Selection Procedures → Application Procedures September 1st ∼November 22 nd Korean embassy or other organizations associated with SMU announce their plan of selection of candidates December 3rd ∼December 21st [1st selection] SMU selects qualified candidates and arranges the interviews [2nd selection] It is done by the SMU Selection committee. ( Interview) [3rd selection] Final Approval from the board of International students Admission Board January 3rd SMU announces the final successful candidates * ‘Certificate of Admission’ and other necessary documents for proper visa will be sent to their home addresses by third week of January February 4th Grantees notify their entry itineraries and make preparations to enter Korea February 26th ∼28th Grantees enter Korea (Classes Start: March 3rd , 2014) 9. Other Important Notes (1) Entry ①Grantees must arrive in Korea by February 28, 2014. In case a grantee does not enter Korea by the designated date without any special reason, his/her scholarship will be cancelled ②Prior to arrival, grantees should acquire some knowledge about Semyung Unviersity and Korea. In particular, it is advisable that grantees learn as much Korean possible as most classes at Semyung University are conducted in Korean. (Please visit the KOSNET site below for on-line program to learn Korean) Korean Language Study kosnet.go.kr Semyung University semyung.ac.kr Korean Culture korea.net/ The Korean Embassy aboard mofat.go.kr Entry & Residence immigration.go.kr (2) Housing ① Grantees will reside in SMU dormitory ②The dormitory fee will not be charged by the university (3) Cancellation of Scholarship If a grantee is found engaged in any of the following activities during his/her stay in Korea, his/her scholarship will be suspended and they will be disqualified from a grantee position When any documents of the scholarship application have been found false When the grantee is punished by the department When the grantee has violated the written pledge which s/he has given to SMU When the grantee has violated the guidelines and regulations set by SMU When the grantee does not reach level 1 in TOPIK after the completion of the preliminary one year Korean Language Course When the grantee does not reach level 3 in TOPIK after the completion of an additional 6 month Korean language course When the grantee has not earned at least 2/3of the registered credit courses of the semester When the grantee goes to his/her country of origin or to another country for the purpose of joining an exchange program operated by the university s/he belongs to When the grantee gets more than three warnings When the grantee has given up his/ her studies
