Glorification of war, especially a wrong one, results only in more - TopicsExpress

Glorification of war, especially a wrong one, results only in more intolerance and jingoism. I have not seen the movie, so I cannot comment on it, but if it evokes the responses set forth here, I am dubious. I am with few exceptions pacifistic, but I understand bloodlust, tribalism, and patriotism. They are human traits and characteristics of a group. Taken to extremes, humans in groups, whether tribes or nations, can be irrationally cruel, embracing a mob-driving frenzy without much rational or analytic thought. Unfortunately, religions play too great a role in whipping up the masses and in giving them impetus and holy blessing. Instead of speaking truth to power (the military-industrial complex and their lackeys in power), all too often religion is co-opted and utilized as tools to control and direct public opinion. In failing to confront society/power, religion relinquishes its prophetic role of being a catalyst for change and good and improvement in a culture. It fails to set forth clearly, hold high the standards, of the ideals toward which civilized peoples should aspire.
