Glory hero retires ------------------------------------- Jamie Harnwell released the news that he was retiring just hours before kick off for the Gulls home match against Perth on Saturday. Acting on doctor’s advice regarding the condition of his right knee, the former Perth Glory Captain (a record 256 appearances) decided to complete his stellar competitive football career. The soon to be 36 year old asked for no announcement to be made pre match and he played the full 90 minutes to depart the field of play through a guard of honour formed by his team mates, coaches and match officials. Harnwell was visibly emotional after the game as he saluted Percy Doyle Reserve one final time, saying injury had taken its toll. “I got advised by the doctor that I have got a lot problems with my right knee, I have had problems for about two months,” he said. “He just said if you want to be walking in 15 or 20 years, then it could be the time to go.” “I was going to be out for the rest of the season regardless.” ----------------------------------------------------
