Glory is to God! Today marks exactly a month since I got married to the best woman I have ever known; my companion and soul mate. No wonder her favourite African song is “No One Be Like You” by the sensational P-Square. As I bask in the joy of my infant marriage and make hopeful projections for the rigor of an endless matrimonial journey, what amazes me is what I discovered about my hometown throughout the preparations leading up to the ceremony and its aftermath. I got to discover that my hometown is rarely known and its obscurity measures to near nonexistence to persons outside my home region of the Upper East. More surprisingly, my homeland is even unbeknownst to scores of people in the Upper East region. I suppose by now you have picked a cue that my remote and obscure village is located in the Upper East region. WIDANA is the name of my homeland! You see! I got you there. I am sure many readers will be asking themselves where on God’s earth is Widana? Anyway, the full and official name is WIDANA-PULMAKUOM. Widana-Pulmakuom falls under the Pusiga-Pulmakuom constituency under the jurisdiction of the Pusiga District of the Upper East region. Widana-Pulmakuom and Pusiga constitute the constituency and the district with Pusiga as the district capital. A few people may have heard of Pusiga which has gained prominence over Widana perhaps due to its status as the district capital. But in any case, the good people of Widana and Pusiga are one people, united in our resolve to bring development and progress to our people. In publicizing my marriage ceremony, I had a tough time having to let people know where it is located. That tough time started with the invitation card designer at New Town, here in Accra. Even after the patience I exercise in giving people a vivid picture of my home town’s geographical location, I also had to immediately contend with the usually upsetting question of why I decided to have my marriage there. Then I rhetorically ask myself what in God’s name is misplaced about having my own marriage ceremony in my own home town? But I could understand that they were only concerned about the double work that an Accra based man and an American woman will have to do in organizing their marriage in such a far away area. But home is where the heart is and there is no place like home. No matter the heights you attain in life, your six feet deep piece of land is where you will finally be laid. Thanks to my wife whose foresight was key in our final decision. I am happy we arrived at that decision. Indeed there is great justification for the obscurity of Widana. It is a border town to Ghana’s neighbor in the north; BURKINA FASO. In fact nearly out of Ghana . Mobile network is terrible. I am accustomed to calling my families and friends from there only to hear some strange French talk by another person on the line. The road leading to Widana is something else. These problems call for serious government attention, not only to the capital but more importantly the periphery. Regardless of these challenges, Widana, Pulmakuom and Pusiga remain viable business towns. The prevailing peace and serenity are admirable. Most pleasing of all, the people are so gracious and welcoming. The land of Pusiga and Widana are blessed with so many young men and women who are endowed with intellect and talents scattered all over Ghana, Africa and the world over. As I pen this brief account, I am reminded of the out pouring of love towards me. The sub chief of Sogodi in Pusiga (Naba Isaac Awini) and his other sub chiefs and assembly men have done more than I expected. In Widana, the Sorogo family have been a pillar of support and continuo to remain as such. As a pastor’s son, one can expect some church solidarity. I salute all members of the Living Waters Ministeries and the Widana AG Church. Members of the Ghayyara Movement in Bawku have proven to be slavishly loyal to the cause. Not forgetting my best friend in the north Isaac Apeawin and his brother Ezekiel. My friend and brother Boazizy who had a lot of compliments from my sister. Abugrey and Figo who were both my Juniors in Presby have been fantastic. I cannot forget Issaku Osman and his beautiful sister Alima from Bawku. And of course the following persons have proven to be a cadre of dedicated comrades and believers of the TOGETHER agenda; Messrs Robert Afulimi (Office of the President), Sylvanus Bedrah (Author of the Bloody Ingrate), Noah FK (National Coordinating Sec. USAG), Douglas Shung-Quartey (Business Man and Banker) and Gabby Mortton (NPP research team). For the many well wishes and friends I have not been able to mention, please forgive me. As for my family (home and abroad) and my in-laws, I just cannot find words to thank them enough. May God Keep us safe for the fulfillment of His mission on Earth. TOGETHER!
