Glory of God And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east; and his voice was like a noise of many waters; and the earth shined with his glory. (Ezekiel 43:2) During the time Ezekiel was given a preview of the new millennium Temple for Jerusalem, suddenly the glory of God came on the scene. Our verse speaks of this momentous occasion. It tells of the restoration of the glory of God, the association with the glory of God, and the illumination from the glory of God. Restoration. Behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east. Earlier in the book of Ezekiel was the sad and tragic report of the glory of God departing from the Temple and from Israel. But, during the millennium, it will return. The reason for the return is that God will be honored again in Israel. Gods glory does not come where Gods honor is lacking. If we want God, in all His marvelous splendor in our lives, we must make sure that our lives give due honor to God. Association. His voice was like a noise of many waters. Associated with the glory of God was the Word (voice) of God. You cannot separate the two. Where the glory of God is present there will also be the Word of God. And where the Word of God is present, there will also be the glory and honor of God. Our churches are too often like Israels Temple when the glory of God departed. The Word of God is not being preached and taught and so the honor and glory of God is lacking. Let our churches get back to emphasizing the Word of God and then the glory of God will be seen. Illumination. And the earth shined with his glory. The old earth is languishing in darkness today. And the reason is that God has not been honored and His glory is lacking. The increasing emphasis on pushing God out of our society and lives will give our lives and our land the tragic epithet of Ichabod (1 Samuel 4:21) which means The glory is departed (1 Samuel 4:22). Let us pray for the glory of God to return to our land and to this world. It is not the glory of man that we need but the glory of God. John G. Butler
