Gloucester City Planning Board Approves Bulk Variances By Linda Boker-Angelo NEWS Correspondent During a relatively brief meeting last week, members of the Gloucester City Planning/Zoning Board approved applications for bulk variances for two homeowners to add amenities to their properties. First, Gerald and Wendy Votta, of the 1400 block of Chestnut Street, received the go ahead to replace their eight-foot-by-ten-foot shed with a larger building. Mr. Votta said that they use the shed to store outdoor furniture and pool equipment during the winter, and they were running out of room. Second, Thu Tran, of the unit block of Springdale Drive in the Meadowbrook development, was given permission to extend her existing patio with pavers to create a larger outdoor recreation area. Tran said she has a garden and wants to have a place to sit and enjoy to outside of her home. The Board also approved improvements to 10 properties on King Street, from the unit block to the 200 block. The homeowners all received funds through grant money from the county, through City Mayor and Council. Each homeowner received $3,000.00 to improve the façade of his/her home that they do not have to pay back provided they pay their taxes and remain in their property for the next five years. All work will be done by the St. Joseph Carpenter Society, which has teamed with the City in this improvement endeavor. Board member Adrianne Parent said city officials are trying to secure more funds so that more homeowners can be given the opportunity next year. The funds were awarded on a “first come-first serve” basis to residents living on King Street. Those approved were to first 10 to apply. The Planning/Zoning Board will hold their next regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20 in the City Administration Building, Monmouth Street.
