Gnosticism is alive and well in our times ... in esoteric, - TopicsExpress

Gnosticism is alive and well in our times ... in esoteric, secretive groups that start out not clashing directly with official Church doctrines, at least for those in the lower rungs of membership. But the deeper one goes into the esoteric cult or group, the more one gets beholden to the group, and slowly, one gets sucked into a series of small, seemingly inconsequential compromises until one becomes a full pledged member. By that time, ones membership becomes more important than ones allegiance to a human-divine institution. One simply belongs to a human institution that brandishes Gods name nominally while not fully in communion with the community of believers. Classical case of believing, but not really belonging.
