Go and Tell John Again By Esther Kerr Rusthoi Listen to the voice of Jesus: Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist (Matthew 11:11, KJV). What a tribute! What a compliment from the very Son of God! The Bible records the lives of many heroic great personalities: Moses, Abraham, Daniel, Elijah, Paul. And Christ measured every word He spoke. He never rendered snap judgment. John had the unequaled privilege and honor of introducing Jesus. He said, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world (John 1:29). It was Gods time for the earthly ministry of Christ to begin. But Johns fearless preaching caused him to be thrust into prison. At length he began to feel forsaken and discouraged. His faith wavered to the point where he sent a message to Christ saying, Art thou he that should come? Or look we for another? (Luke 7:19). How much of our theology, doctrine and religion are real? What can a man believe in, when it seems the bottom has dropped out? Where is reality, in the midst of a whirlwind of frustration and conflicts? It would be lovely if everyone sailed home to heaven on flowery beds of ease without troubles or disappointments, carried by the angels into Abrahams bosom. However, John made the wisest move anyone can make when facing stormy winds of adversity and doubt. He sent to the right Man for the answer to his questionings — he turned to Jesus. He was not scolded for his lack of faith or his wavering belief. Jesus still knew that John was a giant, the greatest born of woman. But Jesus also knew the crushed, bleeding heart of the man and the human questionings. The Savior said, Go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see: the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me (Matthew 11:4-6). The great cardinal, fundamental truths of Gods Word are forever settled in heaven. God is God! We may not understand His dealings with us individually. Questions may at times fill our minds. But blessed is the one who is not offended or stumbles and who never turns back.
