Go big on the smacking huh? I dont think thats a very smart idea but this is a great article that cross-references some important points of difference between the New Zealand First Party and the Conservative Party. It has taken awhile but finally the real Colin Craig and Conservative Party has stood up as a real voice of the Christian voters across Auckland and the country. This is a good move. Now there is certainty about what the Conservatives stand for themselves which can only advantage them in the eyes of the voters, and compliment Craigs growing appeal. Sure, he has copped some real slanging the past few months yet its clear this has made him stronger; maybe a bit too strong perhaps? It is important for Colin to know his limitations and boundaries in order to fully utilise the strength he has accumulated instead of spreading what hes already got out too widely; weakening his entire platform in the process. Character wise and politico-wise, I think voters have warmed to Colin and will give him a fair go in this election in proportion that he himself is seen to do the same thing unto others. But it is the electoral strategy that is employed (or not) between now and the election that will be mainstay of his success or failure. At this stage Craig has made two tactical mistakes that need adjusting. The first is to decide whether he is anti-government or pro-government as he cannot have both if he wants the East Coast Bays electorate. To do so would result in voters allowing him to take his chances to break the 5% threshold if hes that anti-National Party. A second mistake is taking on the New Zealand First Party without the economic ammunition to do so. Social and constitutional policies although very important, do not trump the centre ground polices coming from the centre-Right which Winston has mastered to a tee. And to venture into the centre-right ground with the intention to engage the NZFP without the appropriate or authentic policies, is just asking for a bear-pit mauling by one of the be(a)st at doing it. But smacking? thats just plain dumb...In the other corner, Winston has done the reverse and brought out hard-hitting fiscal and economic policies. The simple equation of paying for no-GST off home essentials by making the tax dodger bludgers pay their taxes is a complete circuit that burns any argument against this policy. Whereas Colin is still struggling to establish his name and appeal in the East Coast Bays and Upper Harbour electorates, Winston Peters appeal is absolutely vast in comparison- spanning from the General seats to the Maori seats and within the Centre, Left and Right spectrums...So to attempt to go head-to-head with Winston and the NZ First Party can easily turn into a nightmarish ambush of biblical proportions. Colin needs to re-establish himself with the National Party and focus on campaigning for an electorate but party vote goes to the Nats rather than try and stop the Winston Peters freight-train on bended knees on the tracks. Two weeks, bro.
