Go for the Gold with Hope Singles Corps! What do children living in impoverished settlements like Diepsloot dream about? The same dreams and goals other children do! We can help keep their dreams and goals alive. The Hope Singles Corps in South Africa next year will help them. HOPE worldwide organized a special community outreach event in Diepsloot outside Johannesburg, South Africa to encourage children to set high goals, share those goals with their teachers and friends, and “Go for the Gold”. Coca Cola joined in, and brought soccer balls to help each of the 200 children that arrived for the Kids Club on Saturday morning to shoot for soccer goals. Their teams shouted for joy each time one of their teammates scored. Kids like Bheki, then Vanessa, and Thabo! Just like the World Cup! It was awesome and super-inspiring! Many children of Diepsloot have been devastated by poverty, malnutrition, disease, lack of education, and the ravages of HIV/AIDS. Many of the children are orphans or live in child-headed and granny-led households. The dreams and visions of these children have already been damaged by the legacies of apartheid and now they are devastated by all these cumulative social challenges. It is a “Perfect Storm” that falls on the heads of these children. It is hard to hold on to your goals and dreams in this environment and one can lose hope. There is something magical about scoring a goal not only for the striker but for the whole team. Each goal is a reminder of what they can a reminder to keep dreaming. Each goal brings a little more pride and hope for a little child! Now they are proud of their names, their families, their schoolwork, and their country. Let’s help them “Go for the Goal!”. Excited about their future, their dreams, and their goals. We are helping these children achieve them.
