Go see Noah - youtu.be/FRTlT3DEydU While this film is telling a biblical story, it isnt a religious movie. It is a moral one about good and evil, human choice, responsibility and the possibility of love, forgiveness and reconciliation in world under judgment. And because this is one story in the larger story of the Bible, it does have meaning for those who know the Biblical story. I think this is going to be a hard movie for many people to understand because they work off of very dualistic notions of good and evil. This movie, as it turns out, is a good complement to the article I wrote for Fresh Day about the good life. https://readymag/mwm/25861/7/. In the article, and in the film, good and evil are aspects of each person. And as the film shows, the evil comes from humanity seeing itself as equal to its creator. In the film, Tubal-cain (Ray Winstone) shakes his fist at the Creator who wont speak to him. This is the crux of the problem. The king doesnt understand that he is not on the same ground as the Creator. He thinks he can negotiate with him. As the story unfolds, even Noah (Russell Crow) thinks the same thing. He asks for an answer, thinking that the Creator answers in the same way humans do. Instead, events begin to occur which require Noah and his family to discern what the Creator is doing. As a person of faith, I find this very much how a spiritual relationship functions. It isnt about the communication of ideas, but rather a sensitivity that leads to how one lives in situations. Do you choose a path towards love, forgiveness, reconciliation and mutuality, or do you choose a path which divides people into right and wrong, righteous and unrighteous, and the protection of ones own interests over others. This is a great movie. I highly recommend it. It is a movie to go see with family and friends, then go get a beer or coffee afterward and talk about it. The conversation, I suggest, is how the world that is depicted in the film resembles ours. Id be interested to know what you think.
