Today, hes on the cover of Mobile Press, Birmingham News and Huntsville Times for the college football game that launched college football into prime time - The Alabama v. Ole Miss game in 1969. In the last moments of the game, Coach Bryant didnt have a play for Dad. Soggy Chesterfield hanging from his lip, official signaled to Dad, Times up Alabama Quarterback, lets play ball. Dad headed back onto to the field with no play. Coach Bryant yelled from the sideline, Scott, run the best thing you got. Dad called a comeback pattern play and aimed to hit George Ranager in the middle of the field. Dad was able to launch the football because of an outstanding block by Johnny Musso who came off his primary assignment to give Dad the extra second he needed. Alabama won the game, 33-32 on prime time TV, and the rest is history. Dad will be with Archie Manning tonight reminiscing.
