GoGo Tomago - Halloween costume construction! I was going to wait to share this process because this still has a high risk of failure but its taking a long time and I could use the ideas of my creative friends. So far, its been more engineering than art but Ive never worked with foam before. First I took full length photos of myself and compared it to the character. Her head was greatly out of proportion so I set out to make a head to scale. I took photos of my head with a helmet that will be later secured inside the head. Because pictures of her head are lacking, I used 3D reference of characters from Frozen. I wrecked my hands cutting foam and lost a week to healing. I made two failed attempts at a head with thick foam before I realized I was going about it all wrong. Rather that subtractive sculpting from a big block, I needed to make a clothing pattern and build onto it. So I made a cutting pattern with flattened polygons from a rough 3D model and began cutting. Ive spent two nights gluing and Id still like to construct more for the eyes and around the mouth. Then Ill be covering it with felt, adding a wig. Then its on to the armor.
