GoM conspiracy to close government and government aided schools in order to encourage private schools owned by politicians 137 schools have been ordered to be shut down in Nanded by the Government and this is likely to repeated across the state. There seems to be a clear conspiracy to shut down government aided and government schools so that the students are forced to go to private schools. Needless to say, almost all the private schools mushrooming rapidly across the state belong to politicians and their cronies. The schools have been ordered shut without following the due process given in the RTE Act. by just an order of an education officer. The schools are government aided/approved and they were shut either on grounds that there were insufficient number of children or inadequate facilities - in either case, they should have been given notices and committees set up to study the alleged lacunae. And finally the schools should be given time to address the issues and shut down only if they fail to do so. 120 of these schools have filed a case in Aurangabad High Court and therefore they have been allowed to open, albeit without aid and without permission to take new admissions. With a minimum student strength of 250 students, the fate of 30000 students hangs in balance. 17 schools missed filing a case and they have been locked up by the education department. Around 4000 students from there are scurrying around to find admission in other schools. How can the state take such an arbitrary decision without adequate notice to all concerned? This shocking process is now being replicated in other places and 80+ schools have been ordered shut in Kalyan! The plan is to shut down 1406 schools across the state. That means 3.5 lac children will be affected and 50000 teachers will lose jobs! 1400 school teachers stand to lose their jobs in Nanded alone and their salaries have been stopped - many of these teachers have more than 20 years of service, some are even nearing retirement. The Aurangabad High Court has stayed the government order to stop their salaries but the State has ignored the court order. Some of these teachers are in Azad Maidan, they had attempted an indefinite hunger strike but were stopped by the police, they are now sitting on protest. Aam Aadmi Party supports the protest of the teachers and demands that the Education Department respect the court order. We believe that no schools should be shut down without due notice and without accommodating the teachers and the students elsewhere. We suspect that owners of private schools, who are all politicians or their associates, are behind this demand an inquiry into this process of shutting schools.
