Goals are a marathon not a sprint I enjoyed a five hour walk over - TopicsExpress

Goals are a marathon not a sprint I enjoyed a five hour walk over the weekend, a first for a long time. Prior to the walk I knew at the end and next day I would ache if not hurt a bit, this is the price for not being prepared. It reminded me that when I did a 12 day trek to Everest Base Camp I prepared for three and half months prior to the event. Being sensible I built up my training in stages of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and up to 8 hours walking a day. At each level I progressed to the next when I felt fit and ready to push on without strain knowing I was ready. Life can be like this brief story. At times we throw ourselves into things without preparation and necessary concern for our well-being and that of others. The results can work out but invariably we do not achieve fully what we set out to. Therefore is it not better to build ourselves up in stages so each section provides the foundation for the next? In this way success will be achieved with due care and attention. “Goals are best achieved when each step provides the foundation for the next. Sustainable success is a marathon not a sprint so work with a productive rather than a racing pace.”
