God Bless Viet Nam Veterans... The late Great Dennis Rutkin and i often attempted to try to understand the attitudes and philosophies, of some of the great blues artists, regarding the Vietnam War. First, Junior Wells. Although it certainly isnt crystal clear to me, it seems as though he is critical of those who were critical of The USAs efforts in Vietnam, with his Vietcong Blues. He sings the blues because you might not have no respect for your country. However, he also laments that you aint had nothin to eat, and you cant buy yourself no clothes. But finally, in speaking voice, not singing, he asks the listener, how would you feel, if it was your brother over there (in Viet Nam)? youtu.be/zvOpOw7tiKw Buddy Guy kicks ass on guitar. Conversely, John Lee Hooker clearly makes no statement about the moral aspects of our involvement in Viet Nam. He just doesnt wanna go! We have enough trouble, right here at home... youtu.be/rGjlih95GMQ Bernard Pretty Purdie plays drums, the harp player is a guy John Lee Hooker picked up off the street in New York...
