God Loves Sinners! Jesus ate and drank with the publicans and the sinners of His day....The publicans were native Jews who farmed taxes from there own people and delivered the proceeds to the Roman Empire, while making a nice profit for themselves. Sometimes they would even overcharge the Jews in order to make a even larger profit for themselves...They were hated by the Jews. The publicans were considered to be of the lowest class. Yet, the Lord Jesus Christ sat, ate and drank with them. The Religious Leaders of His day criticized Christ for this. But Christ said that the publicans and harlots would enter the Kingdom of God before the Religious Leaders. We must understand that the Lord sees not as man does. Man looks on the outward, but Christ looks on the Heart. The Lord would have mercy rather than sacrifice. Christ came to seek and to save that which was lost. The sick are in need of a Physician, not the Righteous. The Self Righteous Leaders of Christs day, did not see there need of a Savior, but Sinners did...The woman at the well saw her need of Christ. Mathew, a tax collector, (publican) seen his need of Christ. Zaccheus a chief publican, seen his need of Christ. One of the two thieves being crucified with Christ seen his need of the Christ. Seek ye in the Scriptures and see who Christ saved. It was those who were Sinners, and mostly the very abased, the weak, and the foolish of the Earth. Why? So that so flesh should glory in His sight! Yet, Christ He came to His own and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:11-13 We need to be careful, that we do not become like the Pharisees, and the Sadducees, and the Scribes of Christs day, for God Loves Sinners!.....blessings
