God bless Taylor Swift for taking a stand and pulling her tracks off of Spotify, shes brought this issue into public consciousness. Its not streaming thats the problem, its the businesses that run them. For those that didnt know, Dead Kennedys pulled most, but not all, of our tracks off of Spotify at the start of 2013. And low and behold, the numbers show that our overall income from Cherry Red Records, London was up 4% in 2013 over 2012. When compared to the general trend for the worldwide music industry of 4% down, were doing better than most by 8%. So for both independent artists and for big pop stars, looks like its Spotify that needs to change their business model and not artists, if they want to be viable for both music fans and for musicians. DKs are doing better without Spotify and so is Taylor Swift, she has the biggest selling new release since 2002.
