God is a God of Love and he gives us a peace that surpasses all understanding when we receive his spirit. However God also Hates evil and ungodliness. Psalms 23 says that the Lord is our Shepard we shall not want. In verse 4 it states;Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me. A Shepards staff guides sheep by poking it at them so that they might get back in line and walk in the direction that he is leading them in. This is what we feel when the word of God is spoken or read and it pokes (tugs) at our heart. The word might hurt a little seem mean however it is meant to get us in line because he loves us so much. The word also says in the NEW TESTAMENT; Hebrew 12:6 For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and whips every son whom he receives. For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. Therefore it is incumbent upon us to receive it and walk in his will. We all have times when we fall out of his will for our lives. I thank God that I am walking in mine because of his grace, love and chastening.
