God is the greatest. How wondrous is victory! O Khalid of the Turks, renew the glory of the Arabs. Victory in battle, now peace in assured. Swords in their sheaths, justice restored. This Arabic poem by Ahmed Shawqi was written after the Battle of Gallipoli, in which the Ottomans defeated a British and Allied fleet of ships which intended to conquer Istanbul in WW1, as well as from the land. This shocking victory was one of the very few the Ottomans had in their last years. The poet likens Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the commander of Gallipoli, to Khalid Ibn al-Walid (an obvious mistake in Islamic terms, as he came to realise later when Ataturk gained power).
