God promised Israel He would go before them and fight for them. And we often talk about God sending spies from Israel into the land first. But look carefully at how it actually transpired: And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come (Deut. 1:22). Moses then took the matter to God, who recognized that they were going to do it their way anyhow, and He answered, Go right ahead (Lev. 13:1-3). The confusion that ensued caused a whole generation to fail entering the promised land. How differently the story would read if they had taken God at His word the first time. And how differently our story would read if we would do the same.
