God said to Moses, “I-AM-WHO-I-AM. Tell the People of Israel, ‘I-AM sent me to you.’” God continued with Moses: “This is what you’re to say to the Israelites: ‘ God, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob sent me to you.’ This has always been my name, and this is how I always will be known. (Exodus 3:14, 15 MSG) God identifies Himself as IAM WHO I AM . Revealing His divine name declares His character and attributes , reinforcing that the issue is not who Moses is , but who is with him . This name is related to the Hebrew verb meaning to be and so implies the absolute existence of God. This word here also is the source of the English words Yahweh Jehovah or LORD In a more complete definition of His name The Lord God defines Himself in characteristics displayed to Israel . The lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.” (Exodus 34:6, 7 NLT) The I AM in the scripture reveals His very nature of compassion and mercy . Jesus described and identified His self as the Bread of Life. The children of Israel ate manna in the desert and yet even though that bread was from heaven they died in the wilderness . Jesus became the bread that came down from heaven , that you might eat of it and never die. Yes, I am the bread of life! Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.” (John 6:48-51 NLT) I AM took us to a higher level where we could live the life He originally intended us to live . The life in Him that would rule and reign in the earth . I AM moved in to us and we in Him . He now lives in the hearts of men to lead and guide us , all the wisdom is already there in the I AM and is released by grace through faith.
