God told me to tithe. Tithe is ten percent. After bills I can calculate that ten percent cant be taken out without being short on at least one of my bills. God told me to tithe. So I tithed; and sure enough, I was short at the end of the month and I had to swallow my pride and ask my mom to lend me the money. I was distraught. I was confused. This is not what my seminary education had promised me. So I appealed to my heavenly Father. God, what happened? Isnt it supposed to go that I tithe above my means and you supernaturally make up the difference somehow? I cried and I agonized and I sought an answer. My little one, God responded at last. Why did you tithe. With tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat I told Him, I wanted to do what was right. To which he resolutely responded, if you want to do what is right, you will give your tithe. I thought of my mother and her dwindling funds as she tries to recreate herself after years of illness. I thought of asking this woman that has already supported me all my life, for money to cover my tithe every month. It didnt seem right. So I appealed to God once again. God, I cant go into debt to a woman who cant afford to lend in order to pay my tithe. I want to do whats right, I dont think taking money from the poor is right. So God brought to my mind the widow with her two copper coins in the Bible. He reminded me that what she gave was more than enough because its what she had. God, in His grace and infinite wisdom told me, if you want to do what is right, tithe what you have. With gratitude I pledged to give my meager leftovers to God. My meager leftovers that he has shown me is enough because its given with a heart for righteousness. I have now had people come out of the woodwork, so to speak, offering me work for which I am so grateful. Just thought Id share.
