God wasn’t attracted to you and didn’t choose you because you were big and important—the fact is, there was almost nothing to you. He did it out of sheer love, keeping the promise he made to your ancestors. God stepped in and mightily bought you back out of that world of slavery, freed you from the iron grip of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know this: God, your God, is God indeed, a God you can depend upon. He keeps his covenant of loyal love with those who love him and observe his commandments for a thousand generations. But he also pays back those who hate him, pays them the wages of death; he isn’t slow to pay them off—those who hate him, he pays right on time. (Deuteronomy 7:7-10 MSG) Sometimes in life I just dont understand. I dont understand why people say and do hurtful things to each other. I dont understand why when you try your best, everything still falls apart, I dont understand why some people coast through life with very little bad ever happening to them, and others never get a break. I dont understand people criticizing others because they dont see the world in the same way. There are days when the slavery of this world is just too overwhelming, when it is hard to see the divine spark in those around us. How grateful I am to know God and to know that no matter where I am in life, He is dependable, and has a loyal love for each one of us. When I can not know or see the good in life, I know that God carries me. He mourns with me and gives me hope for a better future. When I was a child, we moved to another state, leaving behind friends and family. I had a really hard time adjusting. One night my parents came and sat on my bed and cried with me and said, if there were any other way, we would have taken it. We are in this together. Just knowing they understood, comforted me and gave me strength. So it is with God. He knows our pain and cries with us. Thank you Lord for your faithfulness. Thank you for sharing the burdens of our lives. Wherever our life roads may go, may we be comforted to know that You are with us.
