God with Us Scripture reading: Romans 5:12–21 Key verse: Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. One of the most instructive books on the Christian life is the book of Romans. The entire Bible fits together perfectly to form a complete message of truth concerning God and His will for mankind, yet Romans offers a direct look into the life of a believer. The apostle Paul did not shrink back from such subjects as immorality. He was very forthright in telling us exactly how God views sin and how we should view our bodies. We are the temples of the Holy Spirit. In the New Testament, Jerusalem was God’s abode. The temple was there, and within its walls the Spirit of God dwelled. But the birth and death of Jesus Christ changed this. His very name, Immanuel, means “God with us, God with you.” When you accept Christ as your Savior, God comes to live within you. Your body becomes His temple, His abode, and an inner chamber. Understanding this and the significance involved will help you understand why it is so important for you to live free of sin. In grace and love, God forgives sin. However, He wants you to continually seek to live a life of purity. When you yield to sin, you allow darkness to drift into His holy chamber, which is your heart. Accepting His forgiveness and grace brings restoration and fresh hope. However, the greater good is for you to remain pure before Him as you worship Him each day. Father, I accept Your forgiveness and grace. Restore me and give me fresh hope. Help me to remain pure before You as I worship You each day.
