Godard at Cannes The 67th Cannes International Film Festival (May 14-24) includes amongst its competition finalists Jean-Luc Godard, at 83 still breaking new ground, with his film Adieu au langage (Goodbye to language). A frequent nominee at Cannes, Godard, one of the prime movers of new wave cinema, was last represented with Film Socialisme in 2010. For the last 25 years, Godard’s films have regularly incorporated ECM recordings in their complex, layered soundtracks, and in Adieu au language music of Giya Kancheli, Dobrinka Tabakova and Valentin Silvestrov may be heard (alongside Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Schoenberg) . Godard is represented on ECM releases with the double album Nouvelle Vague, complete soundtrack (dialogue, music, noises) from the film of the same name (which marked the beginning of the collaboration between JLG and Manfred Eicher), and the box set Histoire(s) du Cinéma, soundtrack of the video series. The ECM Cinema edition has also issued the DVD Four Short Films by Jean-Luc Godard and Anne-Marie Miéville, which includes De lorigine du XXIème siècle, The Old Place, Liberté et patrie and Je vous salue, Sarajevo.
