Goddamit, Im tired of being the product. Especially Im tired of Google jerking me around as I attempt to be somewhat faithful to its ecosystem. I dutifully adopted Google Reader, which I came to love, and which Google shut down. I also tried Wave and Buzz, which vanished. And now the writings on the wall -- or at least on +Vic Gundotra s blog, that the chief advocate for Google + in the company is leaving immediately, and the guy who could have run it with the same potential +Bradley Horowitz is not going to be next. This leads me to believe that +Alexia Tsotsis , whom I admire anyway, is right. Google+ will become part of the Android platform, which will beef up Googles mobile cred. I also suspect that Google is cutting back on its plans for Glass as a consumer product, preferring to concentrate on its commercial uses -- a much easier way to enter the market, and one that they should have tried first anyway. Layer on top of all the Google news the fact that WhatsApp and Instagram are now part of FB and you realize that Facebook has taken the buy side of the buy vs. build decision, while Google has mainly built things. But both of these monster platforms have us by the virtual cojones as they position against each other and move us eyeballs around like chess pieces. Sorry for the massacred mixed metaphor, but if you use these services, you know what I mean. It seems as if every week we are blindsided by another big move that has the potential to change the way we communicate, create, consume, or share. Am I the only one who feels she has spent much of the past decade being whipsawed by the dream of connection and the reality of the stock market?
